Area Category Operations Manager – Grocery

Support and execute the implementation of US Foods division category strategy across the defined area. The role involves managing product assortment, fostering vendor relationships, training sales staff, and meeting local customer needs while aligning with national strategies.

• Develop and implement customized category strategy plans for multiple distribution centers, ensuring alignment with overall company goals.
• Review area product assortment, identify slow/dead SKUs, pursue growth opportunities, and manage SKU duplication while driving profitable sales growth.
• Gather local market data, analyze trends, and report new product opportunities to the team.
• Facilitate product training and new product introductions, ensuring brand messaging aligns with corporate strategy.
• Handle FSQA inquiries, support vendor issues, and coordinate account onboarding and category strategy communication.

  Regional, area, and distribution center staff, including leadership team members.

  Customers, vendors, suppliers, and national/local food brokers.

• Education: Four‑year college degree in business or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience: Minimum 7 years of category management experience (project management preferred, ideally in food service or manufacturing).

  Ability to operate within a matrix organization, work in teams, drive change management, provide data‑based recommendations, strong business acumen, interpersonal and presentation skills; proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Access a plus).

Compensation depends on relevant experience and other factors. Expected base rate: $65,000 – $100,000.
