Chronos Imaging manufactures CT tubes for medical diagnostic equipment. From our Aurora, IL facility, we’re seeking a Precision Instrument Maker & CNC Programmer who can turn complex prints into production-ready reality—safely, precisely, and consistently.
Role Impact- Translate drawings, models, and engineering direction into sequenced machining operations that meet tight tolerances for medical device components.
- Execute setups and operate mills, lathes, shapers, and grinders to achieve repeatable, spec‑compliant results.
- Program CNC equipment (including G‑code) and leverage CAM software to streamline workflow.
- Verify quality at every step using micrometers, vernier calipers, and other precision metrology.
- Partner cross‑functionally with engineering, supervisors, and production to refine processes and solve problems.
- Adhere to our Quality Management System and EHS expectations, including GMP, documentation, and safe work practices.
- Calculate dimensions/tolerances; lay out, measure, and mark stock for cutting.
- Align and secure fixtures, tooling, accessories, and materials prior to machining.
- Monitor feeds/speeds; ensure cooling and lubrication are appropriate.
- Operate equipment to confirm efficiency; diagnose and correct machine tool malfunctions.
- Maintain machines and keep them in reliable condition.
- Inspect finished parts and confirm adherence to specifications.
- Assemble and fit parts to make or repair machine tools.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support production goals.
- High school diploma or equivalent; machining certificate or technical degree preferred.
- Proven experience as a machinist (CNC and manual).
- Knowledge of materials, machining strategies, and shop math.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Attention to detail, strong problem‑solving, and collaborative communication.

- Manual machining
- CNC Mill (3–4 axis VMC) and CNC Mill (5+ axis VMC)
- CNC Lathe (2–4 axis) and CNC Lathe (5+ axis)
- CAM software
- Regular standing/walking; frequent hands‑on tool handling; reaching; talking/hearing.
- Occasional sitting; climbing/balancing; stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
- Lift up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
- Work near moving mechanical parts; frequent fumes/airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; occasional exposure to caustic/toxic chemicals and radiation.
