Job SummaryThe Ambulatory Nursing Assistant performs clinical and environmental tasks under the direction of the Registered Nurse in accordance with state regulations and Rush policies. Technical duties support patient care environments and exemplify Rush mission, vision, and ICARE values.
Required Job Qualifications- Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) through the State of Illinois.
- Basic Life Support certificate.
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Successful completion of the institutional screening examination.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and stand or walk most of the shift.
- Lifting or carrying objects 35-40 lbs and supporting patients up to 300 lbs.
- Work conditions include procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and contact with infectious materials and strong chemical agents.
- Maintains a safe patient environment.
- Sets priority of duties based on patient and clinic needs under RN direction.
- Participates in individualized plans of care.
- Assists patients in activities of daily living.
- Obtains patient data and documents care in the record.
- Performs routine procedures, treatments, and specimen collections.
- Demonstrates aseptic technique when necessary.
- Assists RN or physician with advanced procedures.
- Manages uncomplicated tubes and drains.
- Performs specific patient care procedures such as blood glucose testing and specimen collection.
- Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific variables and growth and development.
- Reports changes in patient condition promptly to RN.
- Transports laboratory specimens and patient belongings as required.
- Obtains blood products, supplies and equipment as necessary.
- Proficient in telephone and patient call systems.
- Proficient in EPIC.
- Proficient in selected clinic-specific equipment.
- Orders, organizes, and restocks according to clinic specifications independently.
- Replenishes patient room supplies.
- Maintains emergency supplies.
- Negotiates break time and communicates departure and return time per clinic protocol.
- Initiates and self-directions in work habits.
