The Director of Nursing (DON) is a hands‑on, detail‑oriented nursing leader overseeing the Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Medical‑Surgical Training (MST), and Labor & Delivery units. This role drives patient safety, quality improvement, clinical excellence, and operational efficiency through daily rounding and a visible presence on the units. Partnering with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), the DON leverages the patient safety system, VERGE, to identify trends, develop workflows, and implement solutions, ensuring measurable improvements across hospital operations.
A proactive change agent, the DON mentors staff, fosters accountability, champions patient‑centered care, and cultivates a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Experience in ED, inpatient care, or sterile processing is highly preferred.
- Lead nursing operations across ED, ICU, MST, and Labor & Delivery, ensuring safe, high‑quality patient care.
- Maintain a hands‑on presence, actively supporting staff and patients.
- Analyze trends using VERGE, identify improvement opportunities, and develop workflows and solutions that drive efficiency and outcomes.
- Implement and sustain change initiatives to improve patient safety, throughput, and clinical performance.
- Develop and enforce nursing policies with a detail‑oriented approach, ensuring staff training, compliance, and audit completion.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop nursing staff, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and professional growth.
- Monitor key metrics and quality indicators to ensure alignment with hospital goals and regulatory standards.
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required;
Master’s preferred. - Minimum 5 years of acute care experience.
- Minimum 2 years of administrative experience preferred.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications upon hire and maintained thereafter.
