We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. This role involves leveraging your expertise in mechanical design and engineering to create innovative solutions for manufacturing automation. You'll work closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams to deliver precise and functional mechanical designs, support project execution, and drive process improvements.
Responsibilities- Lead mechanical design efforts for automation systems.
- Utilize Solid Works CAD to develop and manage 3D models and large assemblies.
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to drive projects from concept to completion.
- Provide onsite support and mentorship, assisting with assembly, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
- 3D design and detail experience using Solid Works CAD to work independently to create unique concepts and designs.
- Understanding of tolerancing and its impact on functionality and cost.
- Ability to build, organize and manage large assemblies within the Solid Works environment while maintaining software stability.
- Practical knowledge of and experience in toolroom, fabrication, and assembly processes.
- Knowledge of materials properties to support material selection and treatment.
- Experience integrating commercially available mechanical devices into designs (Robots, pneumatics, servos, conveyors, etc.) with a basic understanding of controls integration and automation.
- Experience in designing various work cells (robotics, testing, etc.).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to understand client requirements and interface effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Provide technical support during onsite mechanical assembly, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities, including travel as needed.
- Train and lead others in mechanical engineering and design, providing industry best practices to meet project requirements.
- Evaluate designs for functionality, manufacturability, and practicality.
- Review drawings for proper tolerancing.
- Develop detailed technical prints and review them for accuracy to ensure precision and minimize errors during manufacturing.
- Sales experience, including estimating assembly, fabrication, tooling components, and engineering hours.
- Generating conceptual designs and sales concepts based on client requirements.
- Developing and refining Rovi Sys engineering standards.
- Understanding of mechanical safety requirements in industrial automation.
- Designing pedestals, robot stands, custom mounting, and End of Arm Tools.
- Identifying value-added industry partners for tooling, fabrication, assembly, and engineering support.
- Project management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or significant industry experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a full-time mechanical designer.
- Willing to relocate near Aurora, Ohio, or be local.
