CNC Machinist/Automation Technician I - 2nd Shift

2nd Shift: Monday - Friday, 2:00pm - 10:00pm
The role of the CNC Machinist / Automation Technician I is to set up and monitor the production of parts and finished products and maintain the health of equipment in the automated cell by removing obstacles to optimize performance, conducting routine maintenance, and performing troubleshooting, as needed.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Effectively and efficiently perform the administration, total productive maintenance, and qualification of all equipment in the automation cell.
- Accurately troubleshoot any issues that might occur and communicate status and resolution expectations to management in a timely manner.
- Successfully set up, touch up, and operate CNC equipment within acceptable standards and with minimal supervision.
- Assume responsibility for performing the following functions:
- Simultaneously overseeing automation cell(s) and multitasking by handling additional machining cell assignments.
- Adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Correctly setting up and operating numerous machines within acceptable standards.
- Competently working from blueprints, drawings and production orders which may include diameters, radii and angles.
- Identifying and correcting issues using blueprints.
- Creating and editing programs, as needed, to produce high‑quality parts within acceptable tolerances.
- Mathematically deciphering print dimensions using apparent information.
- Determine the correct tooling for each job if not specified based on part, print, or program, identify and fix material and tooling failures, and perform minor touch‑up sharpening of tooling.
- Continuously monitor machine(s) during production to ensure part accuracy by performing first and final piece inspections on active work orders.
- Adjust machine cutting/robotics paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining acceptable quality.
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)/Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a CNC machinist; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Successful completion of CNC Machining and CNC Programming certifications, preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Technical Skills. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Working knowledge of tools, equipment, and devices, and ability to use hoists, hand operated and power tools. Proficiency with performing tasks with precision and manual dexterity. Ability to apply general maintenance processes and methods. Ability to learn about and apply technical products to various industrial manufacturing processes. Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification.
- CNC Machining & Programming Skills. Understanding of machining theory including programming, tooling, offsets, editing, and geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Ability to set up and run CNC mills and lathes in an operational capacity. Ability to write, edit, update and program G/M‑code. Ability to use and interpret values of calibrated instruments for production qualification. Ability to identify and implement improvements. Ability and learn and apply automation skills and techniques.
- Mathematical Skills. Understanding of and ability to apply Algebra and Trigonometry. Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
