Job Summary
Mental Health Practitioners (MHP) provide services to children, adults, and families experiencing mental health concerns. Working under the supervision of a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), MHPs support clients in strengthening skills that improve daily functioning and overall well-being.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesMHPs do not provide direct supervision to other employees. They are expected to collaborate and coordinate with Fernbrook team members who share clients or caseload responsibilities.

Duties And Responsibilities- Provide mental health skills-based services to children, adults, and families through individual, family, and group modalities in a day treatment and home and community setting.
- Meet required productivity benchmarks for client services and weekly billable expectations.
- Use effective and culturally responsive strategies to address clients needs.
- Complete documentation in alignment with established content, quality, and timeliness standards.
- Seek supervisory guidance and consultation as needed.
- Attend and engage in staff meetings in ways that support your professional needs.
- Complete 30 hours of mental health–related continuing education every two years.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Fernbrook staff and external service providers.
- Uphold and communicate Fernbrook Family Center’s mission internally and externally.
- Follow all agency policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.
- Work hours are flexible, generally between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
- Regular travel to client homes, community settings, Fernbrook offices, and off-site locations where clients may be placed is required.
- Salaried employees work 40–43 hours per week; additional hours may be required to meet client and program needs.
- Hourly employees may work up to 40 hours per week; overtime must be pre-approved by a supervisor.
- Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and an acceptable driving record are required for positions involving community-based client contact.
- Must pass a criminal background check in accordance with agency and Department of Human Services requirements.
- Must meet one of the following qualifications:
- Current Minnesota Statute requirements for Mental Health Practitioner, or
- Current Minnesota Statute requirements for Clinical Trainee.
- Experience working with children, adults, and families.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
