GLO – Accountant IV; Cash Disbursement Accountant

Our Mission:

The Texas General Land Office primarily serves schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency preserves history, maximizes state revenue through innovative administration, and stewards state lands and natural resources.

• Audit expenditures and financial documents for accuracy, including classification, balancing codes, and transaction entry to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and statutes.
• Maintain records of disbursements, funds, appropriations, and purchase orders; prepare disbursement reports and recommend accounting system improvements.
• Reconcile accounts, bank statements, and appropriation balances; research discrepancies and report findings.

• Graduation from a four‑year college/university with coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Two (2) years full‑time experience in accounting and financial operations.
• Full‑time accounting or related experience may substitute for education on a year‑for‑year basis.

• Two (2) or more years with a State of Texas or higher‑education agency, including Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) experience.
• Two (2) or more years of Accounts Payable/Purchase Order processing experience.
• Two (2) or more years of Microsoft Excel experience.
• Two (2) or more years of Microsoft Access experience.

This position requires primarily sedentary office work but regular mobility to move around the worksite. Extensive computer, telephone, and client/customer contact is required, as is the ability to move and position oneself for filing and routine duties. The position demands normal cognitive abilities, including learning, recalling, and applying practices and policies. The employee must maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, read printed materials and computer screens, and move or transport records, documents, boxes, or related materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
