About the AgencyThe Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) regulates the state's electric, telecommunications, water, and sewer utilities. It implements legislation and provides customer assistance, working to protect consumers, foster competition, and promote high‑quality utility infrastructure.
Division – Consumer ProtectionThe Consumer Protection Division (CPD) is the face of the agency, providing support to consumers through the Power to Choose website, handling complaints, and ensuring licensing and compliance. The division’s three teams include Intake Center, Complaints, and Licensing & Compliance.
Position SummaryThe Administrative Assistant will support the frontline CPD team by coordinating administrative operations, preparing correspondence, managing records and data, and assisting leadership and staff in responding to public inquiries. The role requires organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage time‑sensitive work.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate administrative operations for the Consumer Protection Division.
- Prepare and distribute correspondence.
- Manage and maintain records and data files.
- Assist leadership and staff in responding to public inquiries.
- Support time‑sensitive projects and deadlines.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Administrative Assistant IV:
Minimum 3 years of full‑time administrative support experience, including coordination of records, data, or administrative processes. - Administrative Assistant V:
Minimum 4 years of full‑time administrative support experience, including coordination of records, data, or administrative processes.
- Experience providing administrative support for a Texas state government agency or other public sector organization.
- Experience coordinating or supporting responses to Public Information Act (PIA) or open records requests.
- Experience managing records, data, or administrative processes in a regulated or public‑facing environment.
Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. New hires may be eligible to telecommute after 30–90 days of employment, subject to supervisor approval and business needs.
Veteran’s PreferenceVeterans, reservists, or guardsmen with applicable MOS codes that meet the minimum qualifications are encouraged to apply. Required documentation must be submitted with the Texas State of Texas application.

SalarySalary commensurate with qualifications. Retiree or non‑contributing members may receive up to 6% less than the recommended salary.
