Job Summary: Performs advanced stock and inventory work coordinating store and warehouse operations, displaying and selling merchandise, complying with security, loss prevention controls, procedures, and supervising employees and inmates. Works under limited supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Functions- Assists in developing inventory control guidelines and policies for the agency Laundry, Food and Supply program; reviews property management policies, procedures, and controls and recommends improvements.
- Coordinates, schedules, conducts inventory of materials, equipment, and supplies; audits inventory results; coordinates disposal of surplus property and arranges and rotates stock; documents receipt, distribution and disposition of surplus property; conducts investigations on lost property items.
- Prepares and reviews estimates of supplies and merchandise needs, prepares purchase requisitions, checks, verifies and approves requests for replenishing supplies and merchandise; verifies receipt, warehousing and distribution of products; monitors property and supply expenditures; inspects and ensures proper maintenance of machinery and equipment.
- Reviews and reconciles requisition, accounting, budget, and inventory reports; maintains inventory records, purchase orders, vouchers, and other related forms.
- Trains and supervises the work of employees and inmates; provides technical assistance in handling stock, record keeping, warehouse operations and applicable policies and procedures; ensures security procedures and safety standards are maintained.
- Assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
- Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
- Education:
Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED. - Experience:
Three years full-time, wage-earning supply, warehouse operations, inventory and stock control or purchasing experience. Thirty semester hours from a college or university accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may substitute for each year of experience on a year-for-year basis. - Preferred:
Budget monitoring experience; experience in the supervision of employees or inmates; correctional custody or law enforcement experience. - Knowledge:
Warehouse operations and inventory and stock control methods; inventory record keeping (manual and automated); budget monitoring principles and techniques; state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes pertaining to the handling of state property; agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules and regulations. - Skills:
Clear communication of ideas and instructions; coordination with other staff, departments, officials, agencies and organizations; interpretation of rules, regulations, policies and procedures; problem-solving; preparation and maintenance of complex records and files in an automated system; use of machinery and equipment in the assigned area; use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network; training and supervision of employees and inmates;
use of Advanced Purchasing and Inventory Control System (ADPICS) and LONESTARS purchasing and financial accounting information systems.
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle and motor equipment.
- Conditions:
Working inside, around machines with moving parts, radiant and electrical energy, closely with others, alone, irregular hours, traveling by car, van, bus, airplane. - Equipment used:
Computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, hand truck, pallet jack, platform truck, drum cradle, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
