We are seeking to hire a Team Lead - Surveying with field leadership experience to join our team. A Team Lead - Surveying leads a field surveying crew, ensuring accurate data collection for projects such as construction stakeouts using various instruments and software.
Responsibilities include supervising and training team members, performing calculations, reviewing plans, maintaining equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and producing precise surveying reports and drawings for clients and project managers.
- Direct and coordinate field surveying crew activities, providing guidance and training to junior technicians.
- Supervise and perform construction staking and establishment of control networks.
- Set up and operate surveying instruments such as total stations and GPS receivers.
- Collect and record field data accurately using data collectors.
- Perform mathematical calculations and ensure proper reduction of field notes.
- Maintain organized records of field notes, sketches and data files.
- Ensure surveying equipment is in optimal condition through regular inspections and calibrations.
- Comply with safety regulations to protect equipment and workers on site.
- Coordinate surveying activities with project managers, engineers, clients and contractors.
- Prepare and review surveying reports, maps and drawings for project documentation and client presentation.
Skills and Abilities
- Proven experience as a Team Lead - Surveying or similar in civil construction.
- Strong knowledge of surveying calculations, field operations, plan interpretation and standard office procedures.
- Experience with surveying instruments and technologies, including total stations, GPS and data collectors.
- Solid understanding of surveying principles and technical standards.
- Knowledge of relevant software, including CAD and other surveying programs.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot in the field.
- Education:
Minimum high school diploma. - Experience:
Minimum 4+ years.
- Work is performed outdoors, with weather conditions ranging from subzero to above 90 degrees, and in wet or dry conditions.
- Occasional work in confined spaces.
- Exposure to odors, gases, dust and dirt can occur.
- Noise level may be moderate to high.
- Ability to lift and carry 10 to 60 pounds regularly; occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Reach, stand, crawl, climb, bend, twist, push, pull and extend for extended periods.
- May involve manual labor including digging with a shovel.
- Some Saturdays may be required;
Sundays are rare.
