Base pay range

  • $14.00/hr - $14.00/hr

Location: Austin, Texas

Pay Rate: $14/hr

Hours: Approximately 24-32 hours per week depending on availability

Schedule: Monday-Friday PM shifts; weekends AM & PM shifts available

The Spirit of the Position

The Event Staff members are frontline personnel responsible for greeting, engaging and interacting with all customers attending events at the University of Texas. The position requires cash handling, making accurate change, issuing paystubs, etc. during events (sporting events, music concerts, political speakers, graduations, circus, group gatherings).

Principal

Job Duties
  • Meet and greet each customer with courtesy and great customer service.
  • Collect parking fees and provide correct change.
  • Understand and handle different types of parkers (tenants, visitors, employees, administration, etc.).
  • Understand surroundings and event details to answer questions.
  • Accurately distribute tickets (proof of purchase) to each customer.
  • Expedite traffic flow in a timely fashion.
  • Adhere to dress code – must be able to work outside in any weather conditions and stand continuously for extended periods (3‑6 hours).
  • Follow all safety standards.
  • Communicate with management, supervisors and traffic directors.
  • Prepare and reconcile reports.
  • Answer customer service questions concerning parking and refer questions to the supervisor when applicable.
  • Determine traffic flow during equipment failure or construction periods.
  • Take direction from managers, supervisors and emergency responders during emergencies.
  • Provide additional duties as assigned (lead flagger). Ensure breaks are properly distributed when manager absent.
  • Distribute and collect walkie‑talkies, vests, hand warmers at morning; remove when closing.
  • Communicate with manager before making decisions.
  • Ensure employees perform expected tasks.
  • Train newly hired employees.
  • 2+ years in a customer service role – preferred.
  • Experience handling cash, conducting monetary transactions – preferred.
  • Previous experience working in outdoor/extreme weather conditions – preferred.
Skills
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively.
  • Ability to handle challenging and emotionally charged situations.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised.
  • Proficient in English language (spoken, read, comprehend).
  • Must be able to stand on feet for extended periods.
  • Demonstrates sense of urgency and timeliness.
  • Ability to seek improvement.
  • Excellent team‑building and interpersonal skills.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift, push and pull at least 25 pounds.
