Architect II — Statewide
Join the Texas Department of Transportation as an Architect II. Lead the design and execution of TxDOT buildings and structures, working independently and guiding design teams through all phases of architectural projects.
Responsibilities- Oversee complex architectural projects from initiation to completion.
- Review consultant plans, specifications and estimates, ensuring compliance with codes and TxDOT policies.
- Estimate construction costs and prioritize projects.
- Coordinate project teams, including furniture installation, inspections, relocations and building services.
- Prepare consultant work orders and agreements, and monitor building projects performed by consultants.
- Prepare and seal final plans, specifications, estimates and contract documentation for letting.
- Train less‑experienced Registered Architects and Intern Architects.
- Perform other assigned responsibilities.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Architecture.
Experience: 5 years of architecture‑related work (full‑time or prorated part‑time). Relevant graduate education may substitute experience on a 1‑year per 1‑year basis.
- Valid driver’s license (must operate state vehicle).
- Must be registered as an Architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners.
- Knowledge of architectural fundamentals, construction drawings, estimating, facility planning and industry safety standards.
- Expert skill in reviewing plans for accuracy and compliance.
- Proficient in presenting ideas clearly, monitoring project status, prioritizing workload, and using applicable computer software.
- Logical reasoning and decision making aligned with business objectives.
- Work includes indoor and outdoor environments.
- Can lift up to 10 lbs and occasionally carry files or small tools.
- Uses fingers for typing and other fine motor tasks.
- Communicates orally and perceives normal hearing levels.
- Maintains visual acuity for detailed tasks and computer use.
