Associate Professor-Department Chair (Counseling)
St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), invites applications for a full‑time, 12‑month position as Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Counseling, beginning July 1 2026. The department offers a CACREP-accredited program with specializations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) and Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling (MCFC). The campus is devoted to a Holy Cross educational mission that seeks to educate the hearts and minds of a diverse student body committed to social justice.
Qualifications- Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate (PhD) in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program.
- Administrative and leadership experience as department chair or program director at the university level.
- Previous experience in a CACREP-accredited program.
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses across the CACREP curriculum in the Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) program.
- Licensed or eligible for LPC and/or LMFT in Texas.
- Evidence of sustained professional engagement through professional development, service, or ongoing counseling practice.
- Commitment to enhancing diversity and social justice in academia and supporting the university’s global initiative.
- Record of research and scholarly activities.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Effective teaching and mentoring at the graduate level.
- Understanding of university governance structures.
- Personnel management skills.
- Curriculum development and program assessment experience.
- Grant writing and external funding experience.
- Teach graduate‑level courses in the Counseling Program, consistent with the candidate’s specialization and program needs.
- Represent the department to university administration and the external community.
- Manage the department’s budget, recruit and evaluate faculty and staff, schedule courses, and ensure compliance with university policies.
- Collaborate with enrollment management to meet program enrollment goals.
- Ensure compliance with CACREP standards, university policies, and state licensure requirements.
- Support faculty in scholarly and creative work and in professional development.
- Oversee the quality of instruction, credit‑hour production, and class/teaching assignments; foster an inclusive learning environment.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and collegial department culture.
- Advise and mentor graduate students.
- Perform other duties as outlined in the Faculty Manual.
