Job Details General NotesOur goal is to recruit and support staff and students with a wide range of backgrounds, ideas and viewpoints. Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.
PurposeTo administer specific aid programs within the Office of Student Financial Aid. To serve as financial aid adviser for an assigned caseload of student aid recipients in the Office of Student Financial Aid. To serve as a liaison between the Office of Student Financial Aid and other campus departments as well as parents and other non-institutional agencies. Responsible for decision-making processes requiring initiative and judgement in responding to individual needs of students.
Responsibilities- Counsel students on financial aid and scholarship eligibility, personal financial planning, and money management. Work with UT for Me program coordinators to provide triage support for students. Work closely with college student success offices, Student Success Help Desk, and Texas One Stop to support students through the financial aid process from matriculation to graduation.
- Maintain policies and procedures for UT for Me and Dell scholarships. Design, prepare, and maintain relevant forms and reports. Maintain knowledge on laws and regulations governing awards administered by or in partnership with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. Coordinate with business services office to ensure scholarship funds are compliant with source requirements; ensure relevant parties are informed of regulations.
- Monitor financial aid files for students receiving UT for Me and Dell scholarships. Review student eligibility and verification and resolve disbursement issues. Review continuing students' eligibility for renewal of UT for Me and Dell scholarships.
- Participate in outreach and events; create and present programming on various financial aid topics. Attend professional development and training meetings.
- Research process and procedural problems and recommend solutions to remove barriers. Proactively identify students affected by financial aid barriers through data review and manipulation.
Bachelor's degree. A combination of 4 years of experience in student financial aid, student personnel, student services, or related experience. Willing to work evening and weekend events as required. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Must be organized, detail-oriented, and customer-focused. Candidate must have superior communication and time-management skills and a professional demeanor. Must be capable of multi-tasking in a high-stress environment.
Must be able to prioritize work assignments to complete work within required times. Must divest of any stock or ownership interest in student loan lender before start of employment. Shares in publicly traded mutual fund or similar investment vehicle are exempt. For more info, read the UT Austin Policy on Individual Conflicts of Interest. As a condition of hire and continued employment, must be in good standing on all federal student loans and must grant permission for the office to access NSLDS to verify such standing.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Required qualifications plus a Master's degree. Knowledge of state and federal financial aid programs typically acquired from 2 or more years of experience working in the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid or 4 years working in the financial aid industry. Extremely detail-oriented. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to handle stressful situations with composure. Knowledge of and proficiency with software including MS Word and Excel.
Ideal candidate will be able to set priorities and manage multiple projects. Ability to remain productive in a fast-paced, shared space environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to make presentations to individuals and groups of various sizes. Spanish-speaking is a plus.
