College & Career Instructor

The College & Career Instructor is responsible for developing and teaching a college and career curriculum for high school juniors to support students in exploring and preparing for their post‑secondary plans and careers. The role also builds relationships with teachers, school leadership, local partners, and colleges/universities to provide experiences that expand knowledge, connect resources, and develop skills for successful matriculation.

Duties and Essential Job Functions
  • Teach a postsecondary and career readiness course focused on self‑exploration, goal setting, test prep, and college and career research and planning.
  • Plan and execute rigorous lessons and manage the classroom.
  • Collect, analyze, and respond to student college and career data and exit tickets.
  • Support students in registering for standardized tests and preparing for testing.
  • Foster a supportive learning environment and participate on the grade‑level leadership team.
  • Advise and coach all students, including those with unique circumstances, in a classroom setting.
  • Create access to postsecondary resources and exposure opportunities.
  • Write recommendations for scholarships, summer enrichment programs, and college applications.
  • Schedule one‑on‑one meetings to learn about families’ goals, needs, and aspirations and introduce the Postsecondary Match and Career Exploration processes.
  • Provide family engagement workshops related to postsecondary access and match.
  • Support college and career programming, including visits, site visits, fairs, financial aid workshops, and readiness workshops.
  • Maintain consistent communication on students’ data progress with stakeholders and collaborate with the High School Leadership team to provide rigorous test prep and ACT/SAT growth monitoring.
  • Utilize student management platforms to track, monitor, and submit student data and monitor all postsecondary access goals.
  • Attend all staff meetings and actively participate in weekly meetings with the Director of KIPP Postsecondary Match.
  • Develop positive, appropriate relationships with fellow KIPP Texas staff and teachers and view each other as teammates and professional colleagues.
  • Responsibilities may shift, expand, and grow based on regional needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year institution.
  • At least 2 years of prior experience teaching high school students (preferred).
  • Experience working with high school students and families in the college counseling field (strongly preferred).
  • Professional development course on college and career readiness and success is essential.
  • Resilience, strong work ethic and outcomes‑oriented with demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities under stress.
  • Previous experience using data to drive decision making.
  • Comfort with working in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to project plan, organize, and prioritize with a collaborative spirit.
  • Fast learner who can inquire and be open to feedback.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements
  • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Operate computer and office machinery, such as a cell phone, copy machine, and printer.
  • Move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another.
  • Communicate with others to exchange information.
  • Lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment
  • Meet school schedule (7:30 am‑4 / 5 pm, depending on PD days).
  • Work evenings, holidays, and weekends as necessary.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel to other KIPP campuses for PD and chaperone students to college/university campuses and career site visits.
  • Travel for home visits with alumni and families as necessary.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise. As a full‑time KIPP Texas employee you are eligible to participate in all KIPP Texas benefit plans, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, fertility, and disability plans with competitive rates starting as low as $25/month.

Some positions might be temporary and only available for the 2025‑2026 school year.
