The Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions. Weare accepting applications from outstanding candidates in all areasof computer science.
In addition to all core areas within CS, we encourage candidates with strong technical grounding in computer science whose work creates opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration,including potential partial or joint appointments in other departments at The University of Texas part of UTAustin's School of Computing, Computer Science has close ties withthe Department of Statistics and Data Sciences and the Department of Information, creating additional opportunities for joint appointments and cross-disciplinary research.
We are also particularly interested in candidates advancing AI for Science, aswell as those working specifically at the intersection of computer science with neuroscience, biology, or medicine.
All interdisciplinary candidates are encouraged to send applications to all relevant departments for better university-wide coordination. Candidates working at the intersection of CS and Neuroscience are particularly encouraged to send applications toboth departments to facilitate an explicit joint search. All positions are subject to the availability of funding.
The department is ranked among the top computer science department sin the country. It has 64 tenured and tenure-track faculty members across all areas of computer science. Beginning in Fall 2026,Computer Science will be one of three founding academic units in UTAustin's new School of Computing, alongside Statistics and Data Science and Information. The new School is designed to strengthen collaboration and create new opportunities for cross-departmental research and education.
Many faculty also participate in interdisciplinary programs and centers across the University,including Texas Robotics, the Machine Learning Laboratory, the Institute on Foundations of Machine Learning (an NSF AI Institute),Learning Directed Operating Systems (NSF Expeditions in Computing),the Center for Generative AI, the Good Systems Grand Challenge on Ethical AI, the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), and theOden Institute for Computational Engineering and Science.

QualificationsAll tenure-track positions require a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in computer science or a related area at the time of employment.
Successful candidates are expected to pursue an active research program, to teach both graduate and undergraduate courses, and to supervise graduate students in research.
