Austin Community College is a public two-year institution that serves a multicultural population of approximately 41,000 credit students each Fall and Spring semester. Faculty, Philosophy

Philosophy faculty at ACC prepare and deliver courses in both face-to-face and distance learning modalities, employing engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate methods that reflect a commitment to student success and knowledge of the field. The position starts in Fall 2027.

ACC is one of the few community colleges in the nation to offer an associate’s degree in Philosophy. Our Philosophy, Religion, and Humanities department is large and vigorous, serving students throughout the entire ACC District & Service Area.

The department provides students with critical thinking skills that have a broad range of applications in professional, social, and personal life. Courses cover a multicultural group of questions and topics, spanning from classic investigations into the nature of reality, truth, and morality, to contemporary inquiries into freedom, identity, and justice.

Our students frequently transfer regionally to Texas State, the University of Texas, St. Edward’s University, Southwestern University, as well as to many other quality institutions across the United States.

• Prepare and teach courses in the field of Philosophy to a multicultural student population based on the department’s approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
• Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and departmental governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.
• Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
• Serve as a mentor to students in the Philosophy program.
• Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
