Role Description The In-person Tutor / Mentor role is a contract, on-site position based in Austin, TX. Day-to-day responsibilities include providing individualized academic support, mentoring learners, and helping students build effective study habits and confidence. Tutors meet with students in person at agreed-upon locations, prepare lesson plans or session outlines, and adapt instruction to different learning styles and goals. The role also involves communicating with families about progress, maintaining accurate records of sessions, and collaborating on scheduling through Luminescent’s systems.
Qualifications

• Ability to deliver clear, structured academic instruction and explain concepts in multiple ways.
• Strong mentoring skills, including patience, empathy, and encouragement of learner independence.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with students and families.
• Reliable time management and organizational skills to handle scheduling and session preparation.
• Previous tutoring, teaching, or mentoring experience is highly beneficial.
• Familiarity with K–12 or college-level curricula and common learning challenges is a plus.
• Access to reliable transportation within the Austin, TX area and ability to work on-site.
• Relevant academic background; degree or current enrollment in college is preferred but not required.
