DescriptionAs a Solar Field Technician at QE Solar, you are responsible for providing ongoing field services support to multiple solar, battery storage (BESS), or other renewable energy systems on a continual/on-demand basis to optimize equipment performance, troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues, and support emergency repairs and compliance.
In this role you will assist with all routine site inspections, maintenance projects, equipment & system testing, and compliance tasks. Technicians regularly participate in field support, training, and project safety orientations/classes to develop skills in PV array, inverter, medium voltage, BESS, and other solar services.
Essential Duties- Diagnose and repair system failures, identify and correct potential issues impacting site performance, and support field teams with real‑time solutions.
- Perform preventive maintenance on solar, BESS, and related equipment, and oversee warranty and replacement matters.
- Ensure a safe, event‑free work environment by following company and client safety protocols, including lock‑out/tag‑out, JHA completion, LDL testing, and safety policies.
- Prepare service tickets and reports for site visits, emergency repairs, and equipment improvements; communicate findings to technical leads and project managers.
- Coordinate with project managers, sub‑contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve activities and address site safety and compliance concerns.
- High School or Technical School degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; veterans or military‑experienced candidates encouraged to apply.
- 0–2+ years of specialist, technical experience with solar projects, BESS, or other renewable systems; experience with data acquisition systems.
- Experience working with 600 V–1500 V systems; strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and NFPA 70E requirements; proficiency with technology and computing platforms.
- C&I/Utility‑scale solar work experience and operations of solar sites and/or project maintenance and compliance.
- Inverter and/or BESS manufacturer certifications (e.g., Sun Grow, Power Electronics, Solectria, BYD).
- Thermography Level 1 certification.
- IT/networking skills: familiarity with RS485, Modbus, TCP/IP, etc.
- NABCEP PV Installer certification.
- OSHA 10/30 certification.
- Completion of NFPA 70E courses.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Ability to lift 25 – 80 pounds regularly.
- Ability to move safely over uneven terrain.
- Ability to sit or drive for prolonged periods.
- Ability to climb ladders while carrying a 50‑pound load.
- Ability to work in extreme weather.
- Extensive regional travel and occasional national travel to meet client field operation needs.
