INTERA is seeking a Water Resources Scientist to join our growing team in Austin, TX;

Position Summary
- The primary responsibility of this position is to support regional and local water resources and hydrogeologic analyses under the direction of INTERA’s senior scientists and project managers.
- Work will involve compiling, managing, and analyzing large-scale environmental, groundwater, and surface water datasets to support sustainable water resource management.
- The position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and an interest in applying quantitative and geospatial tools to real‑world water resource challenges.
Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be responsible for working closely with a collaborative team on a variety of hydrogeology and water resources projects. Tasks and responsibilities include:
- Hydrogeologic and Environmental Data Analysis: Compile, synthesize, and analyze hydrogeologic, geochemical, and environmental datasets. Evaluate field and model data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geostatistics, statistics, and time‑series analysis.
- Data Processing and Management
:
Collect, develop, manage, and quality‑control large environmental, groundwater, and surface water datasets. Conduct quantitative analyses and data visualization to support technical studies. - GIS Support
:
Conduct spatial analyses and generate maps, figures, and data‑driven visuals. - Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC): Follow established QA/QC procedures for data management, analysis, and documentation. Ensure technical accuracy and consistency across project deliverables.
- Technical Writing
:
Contribute to technical reports, memoranda, and figures for project deliverables.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources, Hydrogeology, Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or closely related field.
- 0 – 5 years experience in water resources.
- Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing environmental or water‑related datasets.
- Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and basic data visualization tools.
- Demonstrated experience preparing technical figures, maps, and visuals using GIS or other data platforms.
- Proficiency with Python programming or similar scripting language for data processing (e.g., R).
- Familiarity with geostatistics, time‑series analysis, or statistical data interpretation.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and written communication skills.
- Skilled at technical communication of scientific and quantitative information.
- Desire to join or be actively involved in professional organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS in Water Resources, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering or related fields.
- Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Experience with web GIS software, such as ArcGIS Online, or other similar software.
- Strong understanding of hydrologic and hydrogeologic principles and data interpretation.
- Experience with groundwater modeling, including conceptual model development, input preparation, or model evaluation (e.g., MODFLOW or similar tools).
- Experience working with local and regional water resources planning.
- Experience with managing analytical chemistry data and developing spatial and temporal visualizations
