- **** Job Details:**## Purpose The Environmental Sciences Laboratory (ESL) is a leader in the development of advanced signal processing and analysis techniques of sonar data, and works directly with the US Navy personnel to provide mission critical tools. ESL analysts explore fundamental questions related to characterization of phenomenology that govern underwater acoustics, identification of novel mathematical and computational signal processing algorithms, and M&S of sonar array performance in complex environments.##
Responsibilities
* Implement research grade software and signal processing tools related to SONAR array processing, environmental and SONAR sensor modeling, and development of other acoustic analysis tools.
* Process and analyze acoustic array data for developing, testing, and evaluating SONAR systems.
* Determine project requirements and desired results, and develop analysis plans to that meet the expressed requirements and achieve sponsor goals.
* Prepare, review, and present to the internal team analysis presentations and reports.
* Travel to external locations to present analysis results at external working group meetings.
* Collaborate with and participate in dynamic, multi-functional teams in support of specific program objectives.
* Other related functions as assigned.##
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related discipline.
* Experience developing, testing, version control and documentation of scientific programs in Matlab or similar programming language.
* Interest in signal processing algorithm design and development.
* Interest in acoustic data processing and analysis, and SONAR system design and evaluation.
Applicant must be highly organized, have excellent attention to detail, and possess sound scientific judgment. The position will require effective management of their own time with the ability to plan, coordinate, and execute multiple tasks simultaneously. Regular and punctual attendance in the workplace is required.
US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position##
Preferred Qualifications
* Masters degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline.
* Three or more years of work experience working with acoustic data or signal processing.
* Immediate eligibility for access to classified information
* Demonstrated experience developing research-grade tools in Matlab, Python, C++, and/or Java.
* Demonstrated experience applying software engineering principles of modularity, maintainability, testability, usability, etc. in software design and development.
* Background or experience performing signal processing techniques, physics-based modeling and simulation, and analysis with scientific computing languages and tools
* Background/experience in acoustic propagation modeling, geo-acoustic inversion techniques, or SONAR system analysis.
* Experience working in both Windows and Linux environments.
* Experience summarizing analysis results in technical reports and PowerPoint presentations and presenting research results.
* Proven ability to work independently, formulate research plans, and take initiative.
* Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
