This position involves working on data center telecommunications design, providing technical design leadership for structured cabling, wireless, audiovisual, and other low‑voltage systems.
Responsibilities- Play a role in the entire design process, including preliminary assessments, concept creation, drawing and specification production, and customer and vendor accessibility.
- Serve as the end‑of‑record (EoR) for designs and provide coverage for project leads; may lead projects depending on bandwidth.
- Lead BIM designers in preparation of engineering drawings.
- Create or modify DIV 27 specifications.
- Conduct site visits and review technical documents.
- Sign and seal telecommunications design packages.
- Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Mentor other telecom team members.
- Collaborate with lead engineer/department manager to identify process improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Communications Engineering from an ABET‑accredited college.
- Minimum 8 years of experience actively designing or leading designs for telecommunications structured cabling systems.
- Thorough knowledge of ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70 as it applies to telecommunications cable systems.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam.
- Self‑motivation and excellent project management skills.
- Experience responding to RFPs.
- Experience ensuring quality assurance of third‑party telecom designs.
- Experience in startup and commissioning of telecom systems.
- Experience creating budgets and maintaining project schedules.
- Experience identifying and mitigating company risk.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license; ability to obtain additional PE licenses.
- 4+ years of telecommunications design experience in data centers.
- Experience with other low‑voltage systems (security, audio/visual, wireless).
- Working knowledge of Revit and Navisworks.
- Knowledge of telecom infrastructure for controls and security systems.
- Knowledge of CSI or AIA specification writing procedures.
- Credential as a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD).
