Acutronic is looking for a Electrical Engineer III to join our team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will be responsible for New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from proposal through qualification testing and production support. Our ideal candidate will have eight years of relevant hardware experience designing and developing motor controls and electromechanical control systems and will be able to work with minimal supervision in a collaborative, small team environment.

Electrical

Engineer III Your Roles/Responsibilities:
  • Perform detailed electrical design and development for Acutronic product lines, including Actuation Systems, Turbo Generators, Power Generation, Conversion, and Distribution, and Micro-thrust Turbines.
  • Support proposal efforts in aerospace, including assessing customer requirements, creating requirements compliance matrix, generating engineering models with analysis, estimating costs, and developing project schedules.
  • Develop detailed system performance models using MATLAB/SIMULINK (or equivalent)
  • Allocate system requirements to components and subsystems.
  • Design and develop electronic hardware cradle to grave, including component selection, schematic capture, simulation, PCB/A layout, and all supporting analyses:
    • Brushless DC Motor control (Trap, FOC) using Real-time MCU/DSP technology
    • Power electronics for motor control, active rectification, DC-DC conversion, and distribution
    • Integration of various sensors used in closed loop control systems (resolver, VDT, pressure, current, HED)
    • Analog front end conditioning for various sensors
  • Perform validation and verification of product requirements.
Your Profile/Qualifications/

Skills:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering from an accredited college or university, required, Master’s Degree in Engineering preferred
  • At least eight years of experience designing and developing preferred:
    • Motor controls and electromechanical control systems
    • Power conditioning and distribution systems
    • Systems with common aerospace communication interfaces (RS-485/RS-422, CAN, etc.)
    • Real-time systems
  • Experience with:
    • Navigating firmware in embedded electronic systems
    • Failure investigation and formal RCCA activities
  • Safety and reliability assessment (MTBF/FTA, etc.)
  • Aerospace configuration management and control
  • Familiarity with certification and compliance considerations (FAA, EASA)
  • Knowledge of common CAE tools (Solid Works, Altium Designer)
  • Extensive knowledge of digital/mixed signal PCB design
  • Extensive knowledge of embedded electronics design practices
  • Working knowledge of PCB DFM and designing for EMI/EMC
  • Basic understanding of common Object-Oriented Programming languages (C++, Java)
  • Basic understanding of common HDL (VHDL/Verilog)
  • Understanding of common data post processing tools and methods (Python, MATLAB)
  • Prior experience working in an aerospace quality control (AS9100) and manufacturing environment, preferred
