Automation Controls Manager
Position Type: Direct Hire
Position Location: Austin, TX
Position Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 (Depending on Experience) + Bonus
Responsibilities- Reporting to the Director, Operations Engineering the Controls Manager will actively ensuring the dependability and peak performance of our manufacturing systems, through skilled analysis, testing, and preventative measures, leading to reduced failures and increased customer delight.
- Lead and develop a team of controls engineers, providing mentorship and technical guidance.
- Oversee design, programming, and troubleshooting of PLC systems (Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal) and HMI applications (Factory Talk View SE).
- Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, GMP, and internal quality standards for all automation systems.
- Manage projects from concept through implementation, including scope, budget, and timelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Maintenance, Reliability, Quality, Operations) to optimize equipment performance and reliability.
- Maintain documentation for validation, change control, and system lifecycle management.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in automation and controls to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment and process issues.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in industrial hands‑on automation, with at least 3 years in a technical lead role.
- Proficiency in Rockwell Studio 5000, Factory Talk View SE, Siemens TIA Portal and related automation platforms.
- Strong understanding of FDA validation requirements, GMP, and regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience with networked control systems, industrial communication protocols, and data integration.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
