Certification Engineer

Sky Grid, a Boeing Company, exists to open the sky for autonomous flight. Based in Austin, Texas, Sky Grid builds ground based high-assurance third-party services to enable the safe operations and airspace integration of highly automated and autonomous aircraft. Sky Grid also acts as a key operational nexus for advanced air mobility, integrating and managing data, infrastructure, access, and traffic to support seamless and efficient air traffic services.

The Sky Grid team is looking for a Certification Engineer who will own all aspects of the certification of next-generation airspace management system for both autonomous and unmanned aircraft systems. You will ensure that all regulatory requirements are identified and captured, and compliance approaches are defined and agreed upon with regulatory authorities. You will be the principal owner of both the certification plan and compliance matrix at the system level, in collaboration with the Sky Grid Engineering team.

You will also ensure all certification requirements are allocated to the applicable focals within Sky Grid. You will work closely with members of the Assurance Group, Engineering, Business Development, and the Program Management Office so timely and cost-effective certification solutions are developed throughout the lifecycle. The ideal candidate will possess a deep domain understanding and knowledge within the aviation industry, but will thrive in a non-traditional, development program with the pace of a start-up.

• Generate Program-Specific Certification Plan (PSCP), including means of compliance and identification of artifacts for demonstrating compliance.
• Own, track, and ensure certification deliverables and processes are established.
• Ensure all required regulatory requirements have been identified, met or have reached an agreement for deviation/exemption.
• Ensure all certification requirements are allocated to cognizant internal Systems, Software, and Hardware teams.
• Ensure certification risks are identified and elevated for resolution in a timely manner.

• Develop and coordinate System Certification Plan (SCP), System Development Plan (SDP), and System Configuration Management Plan (SCMP).
• Generate, allocate, validate/verify System Level certification requirements.
• Support Certification Program Manager with tracking and reporting progress on certification deliverables.
• Identify and communicate certification risks and mitigation strategies to relevant parties for timely resolution.
• Collaborate with technical leads to establish design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product development, testing, and integration that meets certification requirements.
• Engage with both domestic and international regulatory authorities on certification related matters.
• Monitor emerging certification standards that may be applicable to Sky Grid systems and services.
• Participate in defining requirements that shape Sky Grid’s corporate Quality Management, Cybersecurity, and Safety Management System in order to meet regulations.
• Represent the voice of the regulator internally.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience working in a highly technical, aerospace-related industry.
• 2+ years of experience in aircraft or systems certification.
• Strong communication skills, self-driven, and capable of participating in a range of technical discussions.
• Experience with certification of aircraft systems, or automated data service providers, including demonstration of compliance to FAA 14 CFR Part 23, Part 25, Part 125, NATO STANAG 4671, ARP
  4754A, ARP
  4761, DO-178, DO-254, DO-160, Part 146, or other applicable aerospace standards.
• Experience with systems engineering principles and requirement management tools such as DOORS, Polarion, or Cameo System Modeler.
• Can act independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments.

• Presenting concisely to large groups of people including customers, regulatory authorities, internal technical groups, and leadership team.
