GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a leading firm in the field of structural engineering, dedicated to delivering innovative and efficient solutions for a wide range of construction projects. We are seeking a talented Structural Project Manager to join our dynamic team. This individual is responsible for overseeing and managing projects from conceptual design through construction completion, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the structural design process through construction administration to ensure the project scope, budget, and schedule are met.
Responsibilities- Mentor and manage Structural Designers I, Structural Designers II, Structural Design Engineers, and Structural Project Engineers.
- Manage the production of drawings, specifications, and calculations during a project’s design phase from conceptual design to construction documents.
- Review deliverables to ensure scope and quality standards are met throughout the project life cycle.
- Develop a comprehensive project plan defining objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines; collaborate with design and construction teams to assess structural requirements and resources.
- Manage construction administration tasks, including reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits.
- Oversee development of structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials; perform and/or review calculations to ensure code compliance and structural integrity.
- Utilize CAD software, including Tekla Structures, and other tools to create 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Manage team members to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality design solutions within budget; assign tasks and ensure effective collaboration and communication.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and MEP designers.
- Lead and participate in project design meetings, set agendas, take notes, and provide meeting minutes.
- Stay updated with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques and technologies.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancements; help implement improvement initiatives.
- Provide mentorship and professional development for team members.
- Monitor project costs, track expenses, and manage the project budget, including Monthly Status Reports.
- Submit invoices, pursue payments, and identify change orders as needed due to scope, budget, or schedule changes.
Skills And Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
- Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction techniques; ability to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Ability to act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the company in a given area of knowledge.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication for collaboration with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and regulators.
- Ability to convey complex technical information clearly and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to identify risks and discrepancies in design and construction documentation.
- Team player with collaboration, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Adaptability to changing project plans and unexpected challenges.
- Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant tools for structural engineering and project management.
- Commitment to staying updated with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.
- Proficiency in project management, including planning, organizing, and executing projects from start to finish.
- Ability to create comprehensive project plans, allocate resources, manage budgets, and ensure timely completion.
- Understanding of financial and budget management principles to track costs and inform decisions.
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Structural focus.
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license;
Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred. Set up and maintain an NCEES record for licensure. - Eight years of experience in the building structural engineering field.
- Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work from a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to travel to perform site visits at various project locations.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds if needed.
