Responsibilities
  • Manage FPS Fire Protection Engineering team.
  • Coordinate design and construction review processes for fire and life safety disciplines to achieve timely and thorough plan reviews that support the on-time delivery of construction projects that meet applicable codes and standards.
  • Provide fire and life safety code consulting and risk analysis to building managers, laboratories, CSUs, Campus Operations, and FPS staff to meet regulatory requirements and best practices to mitigate risk from fire.
  • Coordinate construction inspections and compliance checks for building construction and fire protection systems for issuing Certificates of Occupancy.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of campus standards and specifications for fire protection systems and life safety equipment at the university.
  • Develop and implement fire prevention programs and policies.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned. Work is performed in accordance with normal trade practices and is inspected for conformity to standards, quality and quantity by journey-level employees or supervisor. Attend staff meetings, safety training and meetings. Complete plant operation and maintenance training courses. Drive University vehicles. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS
    157 Section 2.5.4. Required to carry University cell phone.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering or related engineering field plus 8 years of experience, or Master’s degree in fire protection engineering or related field plus 6 years of experience in design or review of fire protection systems and building fire safety and egress features. Two years of experience managing fire protection design review or engineering design teams. Comprehensive understanding of building and fire codes, including:
International Building Code, International Fire Code, NFPA 101, NFPA 1, NFPA 13, NFPA 72, NFPA 45 and NFPA 30. High level of proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications to verify compliance codes, standards, and other requirements. Proven ability to manage multiple project assignments to complete work accurately and on time. Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with project teams, construction personnel, clients, and leadership to convey technical information and requirements in a meaningful way to the appropriate audience.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in fire protection engineering plus 12 years of experience in design review of fire protection systems and life safety features in new construction and major renovation projects. Experience in applying codes and standards in hospital construction and renovation projects. Experience developing or approving alternate means and methods and rational analyses for performance-based compliance with codes and standards.

Salary Range

$135,000 + depending on qualifications
