OverviewTxDOT’s Design Division is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join our innovative Digital Delivery Section. You will work with engineers, EAs, and analysts on projects that advance the Digital Delivery Program, which uses models created in the design process directly in construction, reducing reliance on paper plans and enabling digital twins of the TxDOT system. Knowledge of survey, design, construction inspection, hydrology, hydraulics, environmental, and review is essential.

Key Responsibilities Transportation Engineer II
- Assist with development of processes, procedures, and pilots for design, construction, hydraulics, environmental, bridge, traffic, and letting for TxDOT’s Digital Delivery Program.
- Recommend and implement modifications for continual improvement of the program.
- Perform complex engineering design work, including layout development, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.
- Assist project managers to establish realistic schedule baselines.
- Support design, computer operations, and plan preparation.
- Interpret the Utility Accommodation Policy.
- Conduct or document in‑house research studies.
- Provide technical expertise in planning, coordinating, maintaining, and operating traffic management systems.
- Evaluate new transportation products and software.
- Interpret maintenance standards, rules, procedures, and policies.
- Travel to project sites for on‑site reviews, analyses, tests, and technical support.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- All Transportation Engineer II duties.
- Oversee construction project traffic control plans and review traffic devices with Area Engineers.
- Provide design engineering support for districts during project development.
- Assess and report project progress versus baseline to determine trends and variances for complex projects.
- Develop technical presentations and represent TxDOT at external meetings.
- Act as consultant to staff engineers to coordinate construction operations.
- All Transportation Engineer III duties.
- Develop and deliver presentations representing TxDOT.
- Negotiate fees, budgets, scopes of work, and contract schedules.
- Monitor consultants’ progress, quality, invoices, and compliance with contract terms, acting as a consultant project manager.

- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related science; accepted by TX PELS.
- 5 years of engineering, transportation, or related experience, or equivalent part‑time experience.
- Graduate‑level education may substitute experience on a year‑per‑year basis.
