Engineering Technician, Cell Quality Lab

Tesla is looking for highly motivated laboratory technicians to perform routine quality testing and support failure analysis processes for our cutting‑edge Tesla battery cell manufacturing program. In this role you will work closely with other lab techs under the guidance of lab management to perform material analysis with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output. The work environment is demanding, fast‑paced and incredibly exciting.

• Work with a team of materials scientists, engineers, chemists, and technicians performing routine quality and failure analysis testing in a 24×7 cell manufacturing quality laboratory
• Perform a variety of routine testing on battery cells and associated materials following established procedures, including chemical analysis of raw materials such as electrolyte composition by IC, GC, and NMR; acid/base titration; conductivity; density; moisture content by Karl Fischer; powder rheology; particle size distribution; thermogravimetric analysis; SEM/EDS analysis; mechanical parts cleanliness; BET; ICP; and FTIR
• Interpret test data and generate laboratory test reports
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as required
• Enforce 5S and workplace hygiene standards
• Support Tesla’s mission, vision, values and goals in performance of daily activities

• 2+ years’ experience working in a quality or chemical analysis laboratory with demonstrated expertise in physical materials analysis and associated quality controls
• Previous experience with the operation and interpretation of materials analysis equipment including powder rheometer, KF moisture analyzers, GC, IC, NMR, ICP, acid-base titrators, SEM, TGA, mechanical parts cleanliness, and FTIR
• Detail oriented, excels at performing repetitive tasks where both high degrees of accuracy and precision are required, with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Comfortable working with chemicals and hazardous materials in a laboratory environment
• Capable and willing to perform all the various manual tasks involved with lab work, such as safely moving heavy objects, moving large pallets with a pallet jack, handling incoming materials
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in a relevant science (e.g., Chemistry, Metallurgy) or equivalent experience; must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
• Experience of measurement system analysis, gauge calibration and instrument maintenance
