A pioneering semiconductor company in Austin is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to support the development of its next-generation bidirectional power switching devices. Their patented technology aims to transform efficiency and performance in power applications across electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, energy storage, data centers, and industrial infrastructure.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, lab-focused role ideal for an engineer with strong circuit-level skills, a background in gate driver development, and a deep curiosity for power electronics innovation. You’ll work cross-functionally with R&D and applications teams to design, validate, and commercialize cutting-edge driver circuits and system solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and test PCB-level gate drivers for converters, inverters, and solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs)
- Support customer-facing applications engineering during integration and testing
- Characterize power devices and modules and generate datasheets and technical benchmarks
- Create and contribute to white papers, technical documentation, and presentations
- Lead technician activities in the lab during prototyping and validation phases
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of gate driver design and PCB development
- Experience with power converter and inverter circuits, ideally in high-power/high-voltage environments
- Hands-on skills in SPICE simulation, circuit analysis, and lab-based testing
- Familiarity with IGBTs, MOSFETs, SiC, BJT, and FRD devices
- Proficiency in Altium, SPICE tools, and lab instrumentation
- Bonus: experience with microcontroller programming (C++ or Python)
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Power Electronics with 3+ years of industry experience, or M.S. with 5+ years in hands-on power electronics roles
