Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer

What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer for the Infrastructure Engineering team. This role is ideal for a licensed PE with a strong background in commercial and manufacturing projects, and a proven track record of leading projects from kickoff through construction/permit quality design. A successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality, code-compliant plumbing and fire protection systems across a variety of sites and projects.

• Lead the design and coordination of plumbing and fire protection systems for Tesla facilities
• Drive the project initiation phase by collaborating with a variety of teams to define scope, design criteria, schedule and cost
• Develop construction-ready documentation including drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations
• Perform system sizing, pipe routing, and pressure loss calculations for domestic water, sanitary, storm, and fire protection systems
• Ensure all designs are compliant with applicable codes and standards, including NFPA, and local jurisdictional requirements
• Support construction activities including submittal review, RFI responses, and field surveys

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States
• 6+ years of experience in plumbing and fire protection design, with a strong focus on commercial and manufacturing projects
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead projects from kickoff through construction-level design
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and hydraulic calculation tools
• Strong knowledge of building codes, design standards, and industry best practices
• Experience with high-purity water, process piping, or specialty systems used in industrial environments
