About the Role
The Chief Engineer in the accommodation and food services industry is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, operation, and safety of all engineering systems within the facility. This role ensures that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems function efficiently to provide a comfortable and safe environment for guests and staff. - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering or maintenance management within the accommodation or hospitality industry.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems relevant to large facilities.
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and coordinating complex projects.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, building codes, and environmental compliance standards.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant certification in facilities management (e.g., CFM).
- Experience with energy management systems and sustainable building practices.
- Advanced training in project management or business administration.
- Experience working in large-scale hotels, resorts, or food service operations.
- Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Manage and supervise the daily operations of the engineering and maintenance department to ensure all systems are functioning optimally.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
- Coordinate and oversee repairs, renovations, and installations of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards across all engineering activities.
- Lead, train, and mentor engineering staff to maintain high performance and professional development.
- Collaborate with other departments to support operational needs and special projects.
- Prepare and manage the engineering department budget, including forecasting and controlling expenses.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and troubleshoot technical problems to minimize disruption.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment inventories.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies or equipment upgrades to improve efficiency and sustainability.
The Chief Engineer utilizes technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems daily to diagnose and resolve complex facility issues efficiently. Leadership and communication skills are essential for managing and motivating the engineering team, as well as collaborating with other departments and external contractors.
