Job Description & How to Apply Below

MEP Electrical Engineer (EIT) | Austin, TX | Full-time | $90,000 to $110,000 plus quarterly profit distributions Why Tom Green & Company

Early in your career, the work you see shapes the engineer you become. At TGCE, you will work on data center projects, a fast-growing part of our electrical practice, alongside institutional and commercial buildings. You will also see the forensic side of engineering: construction defect and errors-and-omissions cases where we are brought in as the expert to find out why a building failed.

Reviewing other firms' drawings with our senior engineers teaches you the mistakes most engineers only learn about the hard way.

We are also owned by the people who do the work. Every quarter, a meaningful share of the firm's profit goes to our employees, and after three years you have the opportunity to become a shareholder. Several of our owners started here as interns. What you get out of TGCE, in skill and in pay, follows what you put into it.

About

Tom Green & Company Engineers

TGCE is an MEP engineering firm founded in Austin in 1985. About 30 of us work together in our Austin office, and we have completed more than 1,600 projects across higher education, healthcare, research, K-12, civic, hospitality, and historic preservation, for clients such as the University of Texas and MD Anderson. Beyond design, we provide commissioning, troubleshooting, and forensic services. We run the business conservatively, with no debt, and our average employee has been here about ten years.

The

role

You will design building electrical systems under the review of experienced PEs: load calculations, one-lines, panel schedules, fault current and voltage drop, lighting, and specifications. You will work on data center projects, support forensic investigations, and get out on job sites to see how your designs are built. As you earn your PE, you will take on ownership of your own projects.

What

we are looking for:
  • A passed FE exam or EIT certification, with your PE in sight over the next year or two
  • A few years of hands-on building electrical design at an MEP or A/E firm, including the calculations behind your drawings
  • Revit or AutoCAD for electrical design
  • Curiosity about why systems fail, and the ability to work in our Austin office
What is in it for you
  • $90,000 to $110,000 base, depending on experience, plus quarterly profit distributions
  • A path to your PE and then to ownership
, with the opportunity to become a shareholder after three years
  • Data center and forensic work early in your career
  • Medical, dental, and vision
, plus disability and life insurance
  • SIMPLE IRA with a company match and tuition assistance
  • Stability: a 41-year-old firm with no debt and people who stay

If you are an early-career electrical engineer who wants to learn faster and build a long career at a firm you can one day own, we would like to hear from you.
