Position Overview:
Apex Systems is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to serve as a subject-matter resource supporting the analysis, evaluation, construction, and risk assessment of geotechnical and foundation engineering projects. The role includes site characterization, analysis and design, construction support, risk identification and mitigation, and remediation of subsurface conditions associated with structure foundations, earth-retaining systems, earthworks and mass grading, cut-and-fill slopes, embankments, and related features.
The ideal candidate will bring practical geotechnical design and construction experience within complex, mission-critical or industrial facilities. This role requires experience developing program-level standards, guidance, and scopes of work for site characterization, risk identification, design requirements, shallow and deep foundations, ground improvement, earth-retaining structures, construction specifications, problematic ground conditions, and quality control and assurance. Knowledge of large-scale mission-critical facility controls and monitoring systems is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a technical resource on all aspects of geotechnical and foundation engineering for data center projects across North America and South America.
Provide responsive client service, manage a complex and dynamic workload, and proactively identify and address stakeholder needs.
Provide technical assistance to multiple internal clients across a broad range of civil and geotechnical engineering topics.
Prepare and support scopes of work, conceptual schematic designs, design and construction specifications, drawing markups, total cost of ownership analyses, budget estimates, schedules, acceptance documents, and reviews of as-built drawings and submittals.
Review and critique geotechnical reports, design memoranda, design solutions, construction drawings, and other relevant project documentation.
Assist project teams by identifying site risks, hazards, and potential limitations and by recommending practical mitigation strategies.
Proactively identify gaps in program-level guidance and specifications and collaborate with stakeholders to develop appropriate solutions.
Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting mission-critical or industrial facilities.
Minimum of 15 years of progressive, practical experience applying geotechnical design and construction engineering principles, methods, practices, standards, and procedures at the project-delivery level.
Working knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
Knowledge of multiple project-delivery methods and processes.
Ability to develop conceptual schematic drawings, scopes of work, and budget estimates.
Ability to travel up to 10%, as required.
Preferred Experience Direct experience supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, or other large-scale industrial environments.
Experience developing program-level engineering standards, technical guidance, and construction specifications.
Familiarity with controls and monitoring systems used in large-scale mission-critical facilities.
