Civil Engineer - Water and Wastewater Treatment

Our client, a prominent engineering firm with a strong presence in the Free State, is seeking a dedicated Civil Engineer with specialized expertise in water and wastewater treatment infrastructure. Based in Welkom , this role is pivotal in contributing to the design, development, and implementation of essential water and sanitation projects for municipal and industrial clients. The successful candidate will be involved in all phases of project life cycles, from conceptualization and feasibility studies to detailed design, construction supervision, and commissioning.

• Design and analysis of water and wastewater treatment plants, including hydraulic modeling, process design, and component selection.
• Preparation of engineering drawings, technical specifications, and tender documents for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Conducting feasibility studies, site assessments, and environmental impact assessments for new projects.
• Providing technical supervision and support during the construction and commissioning phases of treatment facilities and associated pipelines.
• Collaborating with environmental scientists, process engineers, and other specialists to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant national and local regulations and standards (e.g., SANS 10384, SANS 241).
• Assisting in the management of project schedules, budgets, and resources.
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving during project execution and operation.
• Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team knowledge sharing.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) registration with ECSA is preferred.
• A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the design and management of water and wastewater treatment projects.
• Proven experience with hydraulic design, process selection, and associated civil works for water and wastewater systems.
• Familiarity with relevant South African water and sanitation standards and guidelines.
• Proficiency in relevant design and modeling software (e.g., WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, AutoCAD).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent report writing and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
