Actuary III/IV (Health Actuary)The Health Actuary (Actuary III/IV) performs highly complex and/or advanced actuarial work to support the strategic objectives of the Financial Regulation Division. Work involves providing actuarial advice and consultation and performing actuarial analysis and examination of reserves and other actuarial matters. Works under limited and/or minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Brief description of the job.
Thisposition
- Performs actuarial examinations of health insurance companies and other related entities and prepares examination reports and work papers.
- Performs reviews of actuarial opinions, supporting actuarial reports, and other related actuarial analysis.
- Provides feedback, coaching, guidance, and technical assistance to others as applicable.
- Progresses toward achieving required actuarial credentials, or completes relevant continuing education, including meeting the minimum requirement to maintain actuarial credentials.
- Performs actuarial analysis as needed for the Financial Regulation Division and the agency.
- Participates in special projects as assigned which may include efforts on rules, legislation, and requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably with a major in statistics, mathematics or actuarial science, insurance, or related field.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant actuarial work experience.
- A Health Actuary without credentials as an Associate of the Society of Actuaries is expected to demonstrate commitment toward achieving associateship by effectively attempting the equivalent of 2 exam sittings during each 18-month period and completing the equivalent of 1 exam during each 18-month period.
- A minimum of five (4) years of relevant actuarial work experience.
- Associate or Fellow with the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries in good standing including maintaining required continuing education credits.
- Ability to interpret insurance laws, regulations, requirements, and actuarial guidelines.
This position may be eligible for hybrid telecommuting. Employees must have a secure, dedicated workspace with Internet service, ability to maintain a reliable consistent work schedule, and be available for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours.
