Sales and Use Tax Senior AnalystPosition Overview
The Sales and Use Tax Senior Analyst is a knowledgeable and detail-oriented professional responsible for managing sales and use tax compliance, accounting, and technology across multiple legal entities. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate tax determination, timely filings, and effective issue resolution. The successful candidate will leverage analytical expertise and technology proficiency to support compliance, drive process improvements, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
The Sales and Use Tax Senior Analyst will also contribute to tax planning, audit support, and acquisition integration efforts.
- Conduct ongoing taxability analyses to ensure products, services, and transactions receive the correct tax treatment, tax costs are accurately recorded, and related risks are clearly understood.
- Complete month-end closing activities, including the preparation and posting of journal entries related to sales and use tax
- Maintain tax reconciliations.
- Support the compliance team in ensuring the proper and timely filing and payment of state and local sales and use taxes.
- Monitor nexus and ensure ongoing compliance with state and local tax regulations.
- Liaise with tax administrations regarding registration, deregistration, and account maintenance.
- Monitor and research the impact of pending legislative and regulatory changes on the company’s tax obligations.
- Manage customer sales tax exemption certificates, including collection, validation, and recordkeeping.
- Support the tax engine for sales and use tax determination, including the ability to identify configuration issues and propose enhancements.
- Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements within the indirect tax function.
- Leverage AI tools with a sound validation approach to enhance accuracy and productivity.
- Perform assigned tax research and provide well-supported conclusions and recommendations.
- Assist and support sales and use tax audits, including preparation of documentation and responses to information requests.
- Assist with delivering sales and use tax training across the organization to promote awareness and compliance.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and respond to their inquiries in a constructive and timely manner.
- Collaborate with the indirect tax team on property tax matters as needed.
- Support tax due diligence and integration efforts related to acquisitions.
- Assist with tax planning initiatives and identify associated risks and opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance, accounting, or related roles.
- Proficiency with SAP S/4
HANA or equivalent ERP platform. - Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Well-organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines consistently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with cross-functional teams and tax authorities.
