GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Perform complex environmental or public health and safety work. Work involves conducting inspections, surveys, assessments, or investigations to ensure compliance with environmental laws; evaluating environmental impact; and identifying health and safety hazards and other sources that can affect the health of the environment or population. May train others. Work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct site assessments to determine root cause analysis of environmental issues and to determine proper corrective measures.
  • Review and analyze documents, inspection reports, field surveys, assessments, or investigations to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal environmental or public health laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare correspondence, technical reports, requests for environmental or safety assessments, impact statements, and programmatic assessments.
  • Review applications and conduct technical reviews of permits and licenses to ensure compliance with applicable environment or public health law and regulations.
  • Review, evaluate, and monitor consultant work.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation on laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Prepare and create presentations on environmental and public health programs and issues.
  • Monitor environmental and public health program effectiveness and issues.
  • Perform safety inspections of work performed by agency staff and contractors; findings will subsequently be submitted to the agency’s risk manager.
  • Plan, coordinate, schedule, conduct, and approve surveys, tests, or inventories for project clearance.
  • Represent the agency regarding environmental or public issues.
  • May review and recommend changes to policies, procedures, and guidelines and assist in their implementation.
  • May conduct safety training.
  • Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

    Education – Graduation from an accredited two (2) year college or university. Major area of study in environmental or natural sciences, environmental engineering, or a related field is preferred.

    Experience – Two (2) or more years of progressively complex full-time work experience in planning and implementing research, preservation or hazard mitigation projects in asbestos abatement, underground storage tanks, air or water pollution, or industrial hygiene. Substitution

    Licensure and/or Certification – If driving is required, must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.

    Critical Organizational Infrastructure requirements – This job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure; must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role. Additionally, and more specifically, must not be employed by nor have any connection or continuous connections to any governmental entity or political apparatus of a country listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4.
