  • Environmental Protection Specialist I: $3,409.83 - $3,700.00/monthly
  • Environmental Protection Specialist II: $3,793.42 - $4,200.00/monthly
  • Environmental Protection Specialist III: $4,263.16 - $5,381.25/monthly

General Description:

Performs routine to highly complex environmental work reviewing TWDB-funded projects. Works under moderate to limited supervision, may train or supervise others. Reports to the Brazos Regional Team Manager in the Regional Water Project Development Division.

Essential Job Functions
  • Coordinates with and advises customers and consultants on the level of environmental review required for proposed projects and associated requirements.
  • Coordinates with TWDB staff, state, federal, and regulatory agencies on environmental issues for TWDB-funded projects.
  • Evaluates potential impact of project activities in noise pollution, air and water quality, wetlands, hazardous materials, socioeconomic areas, biological resources, geological areas, and cultural/historic resources.
  • Reviews coordination from regulatory agencies and recommends conditions to minimize, avoid, or mitigate potential impacts.
  • Reviews project-related documents, including environmental assessments, archaeological and biological survey reports, environmental site assessments, and other related documents.
  • Works closely with the RWPD teams, environmental review workgroup, and other staff to ensure consistency of review policies and procedures.
  • Follows NEPA and state environmental review requirements; reviews projects for compliance with Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and other regulations.
  • Reviews project-related funding applications and engineering documents.
  • Conducts archaeological and environmental file and literature searches and data analyses.
  • Prepares, amends, and adopts state and NEPA level environmental determinations.
  • Provides guidance on cultural resources management, waters of the United States, endangered species issues, floodplains, and other natural resource issues.
  • Works with environmental and engineering consultants, local, state, and federal representatives throughout projects.
  • Provides guidance and recommendations to stakeholders on compliance with program requirements.
  • Prepares written reports, memoranda, and correspondence.
  • Represents the agency at meetings with state and federal agencies and other political subdivisions.
