The Office of the Governor is looking for a Policy Data Analyst (Research Specialist II-III) to work in the Policy Division.

What You’ll EarnThe salary is $4,166.67 – $6,250.00 a month ($50,000.04 – $75,000.00 a year). Funding for this position is not intended to extend past August 31, 2027.
This position performs moderately complex to complex (journey-level) policy and program research and analyses work. Work involves handling a variety of policy issues and demonstrates sustained understanding and commitment to the Governor’s philosophy.
- Assists Governor’s Advisors in researching, evaluating, and preparing comprehensive analyses of state agency policy, proposed policy revisions, issuing briefs, and written materials on complex state policy, and programmatic issues.
- Assists the Governor’s Advisors in program planning, development, and implementation.
- Assists in evaluating agency operations and drafts timely and factual reports of findings and recommendations.
- Assists in the preparation of reports, studies, and specialized research projects.
- Engages community and professional groups through constituent and stakeholder meetings.
- Actively contributes to the development and advancement of the Governor’s policy priorities, working in coordination within the Governor’s executive staff, press office, appointments staff, and legislative staff, as well as with legislative offices and state agencies.
Research Specialist II
- High school graduate or equivalent; and
- Two (2) years of professional experience in program evaluation, research, and the collection and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.
Research Specialist III
- High school graduate or equivalent; and
- Three (3) years of professional experience in program evaluation, research, and the collection and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.
Note:
Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. Salary and position level will be based on experience and demonstrated skills.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in economics, business administration, political science, government, data analytics, finance, accounting, or a related degree; and
- At least one (1) year experience working in a state legislative process, and/or conducting research and policy analysis.
Veterans, Reservists, or members of the Guard can compare this position to Military Occupations ( MOS ) at the Texas State Auditor’s Office.
