Overview
Behavioral Health Medical Assistant (Pedi) at Austin Regional Clinic. Provides pediatric behavioral health support and administrative assistance within the clinic.
Responsibilities- Rooms patients, takes and documents vital signs, and prepares patients for the provider.
- Ensures completion of all necessary paperwork for both new-patient intake and established-patient follow-up.
- Reviews providers’ refill in-basket and assists with queuing medication requests for provider approval.
- Reviews EMR system triage in-basket for information needs and calls/informs patients of normal lab results when appropriate.
- Coordinates pharmacogenomic testing and other related processes.
- Supports planning, organization, and direction of the Pediatric Behavioral Health Department’s clinic and administrative functions.
- Coordinates and streamlines overall processes for Behavioral Health services.
- Contacts patients overdue for follow-up to assist with scheduling and address barriers; follows up with at-risk patients to maintain engagement.
- Manages provider communications and connects patients to community resources as needed.
- Coordinates care with other members of the care team and ensures rooms are stocked and supplies are current.
- Administers medication under physicians’ direction within the scope of practice after training and testing.
- Performs diagnostic testing as instructed (e.g., EKGs, audiograms, spirometry) and documents results in the EMR system.
- Posts patient test results to MyChart and assists with routine administrative duties.
- Assists providers with procedures as needed, including equipment setup and documenting consents in the EMR system.
- Maintains and monitors equipment and supplies, including sterilization processes and expiration checks.
- Handles incoming calls to triage, determine acuity, and route to clinical staff as appropriate.
- Trains new employees and may assist in scheduling staff when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One of the following:
Medical Assistant experience; CNA/EMT/PCT or comparable direct patient care experience; graduate of a medical assistant program.
- Six (6) months or more experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Experience in a behavioral health practice.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Current AHA-approved BLS CPR card or within 60 days of hire required.
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to administer medications and injections within scope of practice.
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
- Proficiency with EMR and computer systems; ability to document accurately and communicate clearly.
- Team-oriented, able to collaborate with others and follow instructions.
M-F 7:45am-5pm
