The Opportunity
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Data Curation and Research Specialist(Healthcare) to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing clinical guidance to build Autonomize’s healthcare co-pilots for clinical decision support, automated coding, patient risk stratification. You will also be responsible for strategically planning and overseeing clinical annotation initiatives, developing precise guidelines, performing thorough annotations, and resolving discrepancies through careful adjudication to achieve high data quality and reliability.
Your work will play a critical role in training and validating AI and machine learning models designed for healthcare applications.
- Collaborate with data scientists, clinicians, and machine learning engineers to provide clinical guidance and drive meaningful advancements in Healthcare AI.
- Develop annotation guidelines to accelerate development of Autonomize’ copilots.
- Review and annotate clinical documents such as EMRs, clinical notes, discharge summaries, referral forms, and medical charts.
- Tag and classify data using standard clinical terminologies and taxonomies (e.g., ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, SNOMED CT , LOINC).
- Identify and extract structured entities from unstructured text such as diagnoses, procedures, medications, and lab results.
- Perform quality control and inter-annotator agreement checks to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Maintain clear documentation of annotation decisions, edge cases, and guideline clarifications.
- Provide feedback on annotation tooling and suggest improvements based on user experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field (e.g., Nursing, Health Information Management, Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, Billing & Utilization Management).
- Knowledge of clinical coding systems such as ICD-10 , CPT , and SNOMED CT .
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and clinical documentation practices.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with high attention to detail .
- Excellent written communication skills for documentation and collaboration.
- Prior experience in clinical data annotation, medical coding, clinical documentation improvement (CDI), billing & UM, or health informatics.
- Certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS, RHIT ).
- Experience with annotation tools and platforms (e.g., Prodigy, Labelbox, Light Tag, Snorkel, etc.).
- Exposure to machine learning or natural language processing (NLP) projects in healthcare is a plus.
