About The Department of Population Health, Division of Global Health
The Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) / Modelo Acadmico para Proveer Acceso a la Salud (MAPAS) is a global network of academic health centers (AHCs) collaborating with ministries of health in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) to ensure essential health care for all. AMPATHs partnership model has unleashed the inherent power of academic medical centers to support public-sector health care delivery systems to improve population health.
The AMPATH Consortium aims to foster long-term, equitable partnerships with AHCs and universities across the globe and the AMPATH principles represent a replicable and adaptable academic global health partnership model, collaborating with ministries of health in low and middle-income countries to ensure essential health care for all.
The mission of AMPATH is for university and academic health centers to partner in the delivery of health services to build health systems in the public sector that:
- Strengthen and develop sustainable health care services
- Strengthen and develop human capacity through training and education
- Advance research to improve the health of low-income populations
- Reduce health disparities
The Division of Global Health within the Department of Population Health at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School works to leverage the trifold academic mission of service, education, and research to improve health outcomes and promote health equity for poor and vulnerable populations globally. Dell Medical School has a formal partnership with Benemrita Universidad Autnoma de Puebla School of Medicine (BUAP) in Mexico, in partnership with Mexicos public health sector to adapt the AMPATH/MAPAS Model in the state of Puebla, Mexico.

About The Clinical Team Lead, AMPATH/MAPAS Mexico Opportunity
The Department of Population Health, Division of Global Health is seeking a Clinical Team Leader for our Academic Model Providing Access to Health Care (AMPATH) global health partnership program in Puebla, Mexico. The Clinical Team Leader will divide time between Austin, Texas and Puebla, Mexico. This is a faculty position at the rank of Instructor, at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin.
The Clinical Team Leader will work with Chief of the Division of Global Health, the AMPATH/MAPAS Mexico Partnership Director and Clinical Lead, Benemrita Universidad Autnoma de Puebla (BUAP) leadership and faculty, and Mexican public sector health and community-based partners to primarily advance the non-communicable disease (NCD) program of the AMPATH/MAPAS Mexico partnership, but also to contribute to AMPATHs tripartite mission of care, education and research.
Critical to this role is the leadership, cultural and linguistic skills necessary to develop strong working relationships with our Mexican partners. This is a unique position within the global health space for those interested in pursuing initiatives in partnership with Mexican colleagues that aim to reduce health care inequities faced by people in rural, Puebla, Mexico and in low- and middle-income countries more broadly.
The Clinical Team Leader will help advance the NCD program in Puebla, Mexico inclusive of training and mentoring of local (Mexican) promotoras (community health workers), home and community-based health promotion and screening for NCDs, and implementation of a group-based NCD care model.
