Medcial Collection Specialist

United Surgical Partners International, Inc – Austin, TX

We are looking for an experienced Collection Specialist to contact clients and collect outstanding payments for outpatient surgical procedures in General, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic, and Urology. The role requires weekdays only—no holidays, weekends, or on‑call duties. Some early mornings or later evenings may be required, subject to surgical schedule and daily flow.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Business Office Manager, the Collections Specialist follows up on delinquent surgery center claims and works an expected number of claims per day. Majority of claims are submitted electronically to various insurance carriers. The specialist must interpret managed care contracts, Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers Compensation claims to calculate allowable and required amounts, determine reimbursement appropriateness, and appeal claims as necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Extensive contact with insurance carriers and patients regarding out‑of‑pocket amounts, identifying underpaid or overpaid accounts, issuing credit balance information to carriers or patients.
  • Execute tasks in a professional and communicative manner per policies, procedures, guidelines, internal control measures, and established goals.
  • Collaborate with direct reports, patients, customers, insurance carriers, and other staff; maintain confidentiality of the surgery center and patients.
  • Manage accounts independently and productively in a stressful environment that demands patience and tact while providing impeccable service.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
Qualifications
  • 3 or more years’ experience in healthcare insurance collections; preference for prior ambulatory surgical setting.
  • Experience with Advantx Patient Accounting System or similar electronic patient information systems.
  • Preference for experience with Electronic Health Record system (training will be provided).
  • Medical terminology knowledge.
  • Strong independent work ability, excellent communication, interpersonal, time‑management, and prioritization skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
