Overview

The Emerald Cloud Laboratory (ECL) enables life scientists to move out of the lab and conduct research entirely from a computer. The system supports remote, automated execution of standard biology and chemistry experiments in Emerald’s industrial lab facilities, with a software platform for all stages of research workflows, from experimental design to data analysis. The platform empowers scientists at Big Pharma companies, startups, and academic laboratories to run wet lab experiments from anywhere in the world without entering the lab.

The demand for our service is growing, and we are recruiting Lab Operators to explore opportunities in the biotech space and grow with our organization. Qualified candidates will receive comprehensive lab and safety training, enabling them to run protocols in our Austin facility. These protocols are critical to sustaining high-quality operations and provide experience working in ECL’s process-driven lab environment with integrated software tools.

These are contract positions with a potential to convert to full-time ECL employees, subject to meeting performance metrics. Candidates with a minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience or a relevant bachelor’s degree may be considered for immediate full-time positions.

Responsibilities & Opportunities

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and be responsible for:

  • Working in a fast-paced production, fulfillment, or manufacturing environment with defined success metrics and goals for teams and individuals
  • Following detailed written instructions to successfully run stated protocols with minimal supervision
  • Maintaining keen attention to detail, being highly organized, and diligent
  • Understanding and following all ECL and site-specific policies and procedures
  • Participating in continuous improvement and operation exercises
  • Maintaining strong computer skills and willingness to learn new systems
  • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Handling and maneuvering small components and parts
  • Complying with all lab safety guidelines and using appropriate safety measures
  • Working flexible shifts/hours (12.5 hours per day), overtime as needed, which requires standing on the lab floor for the duration of the shift (excluding breaks)
  • Lifting and handling materials used for experiments, not exceeding OSHA guidelines

This role requires operation of specific laboratory equipment that may pose safety hazards to individuals with certain medical conditions or implanted metal devices. Please consult with a healthcare provider if you have concerns about safely performing these tasks.

Qualifications

Preferred

Skills & Experience:

  • 1–3 years of experience in a laboratory environment or regulated manufacturing industry (e.g., Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Biotechnology, Automotive)
  • Experience in a Good Manufacturing Practices / Good Laboratory Practices (GMP/GLP) environment

This is a non-exempt, contract-to-FTE role, with openings available for day & night shifts and the ability to start immediately. The hourly rate for this role is $20 - $26 per hour, depending on experience.

Upon conversion to an ECL employee, you will be provided competitive wages, stock options, and employee health benefits.
