Overview
Genetic Counselor, Pediatric Neurosciences Program, UT Health Austin. This position is located off campus at Dell Children’s Medical Center (4900 Mueller Blvd, Austin, Tx). The role supports clinical operations and reports to the Chief of the Pediatric Neurogenetics Center.
Responsibilities- Conduct patient assessment and counseling: gather family and medical history, assess risk factors, provide counseling on genetic risks, interpret test results, develop personalized care plans.
- Coordinate genetic testing: obtain informed consent, liaise with laboratories, monitor and follow up on results, document all testing procedures and outcomes.
- Deliver education and training: educate patients and families, develop educational materials, provide training to healthcare staff, conduct workshops and seminars, evaluate program effectiveness.
- Collaborate and communicate: integrate genetic information into patient care plans, communicate with clinical staff, participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, coordinate with departments, provide updates on patient progress and outcomes.
- Research and development: participate in clinical research studies, contribute to new counseling techniques and protocols, stay informed of advancements, present research findings at conferences and seminars.
- Administrative duties: prepare reports and presentations for management, participate in departmental meetings and committees, inventory management, community outreach.
Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling. Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) required. Licensed Genetic Counselor (LGC) in Texas preferred. 2 years clinical experience in genetic counseling in neurology and/or pediatrics. 2 years clinical experience in genetic counseling general may be substituted.
Salary$80,000 + depending on qualifications.
