The Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) balances direct clinical work with team management. The majority of this role (50‑80%) involves providing patient care as an active member of a clinical team (Baseline Visits or Primary Care). The remaining portion (20‑50%) is dedicated to administrative duties and the direct leadership of a remote or hybrid team of clinicians (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Physicians).
This individual acts as the team’s operational point of contact, overseeing schedules, professional development, and process improvement initiatives.
- Clinical Practice (50‑80%)
- Demonstrates sound judgement and clinical competence in conducting evidence‑based clinical encounters.
- Establishes empathetic and professional rapport with patients during all clinical encounters.
- Maintains a personal clinical schedule and meets the same productivity and quality metrics expected of all team clinicians.
- Documents all clinical encounters accurately and in a timely manner.
- Serves as an exemplary role model for the team, demonstrating best practices in patient communication, clinical documentation, and efficiency.
- Leadership & People Management (20‑50%)
- Provides direct line management to a team of clinicians.
- Manages administrative aspects of the team, including approval of flexible time off, vacation requests, and sick time to ensure full clinical coverage.
- Monitors team communication channels (e.g., Slack, email) to provide timely operational direction and answer questions.
- Conducts regular 1:1 meetings, provides coaching, and manages the professional development and performance of direct reports.
- Assists with the recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of new clinicians as needed.
- Assists with planning and execution of team‑building activities, process improvements, and other projects as assigned.
- Presents operational updates and leads team initiatives as needed.
- Operational Collaboration
- Collaborates closely with the Medical Director on team performance, staffing needs, and strategic initiatives.
- Acts as a key liaison between the clinical team and other departments, including Care Navigation, Member Services, and Information Technology.
- Gathers, manages, and provides feedback on clinical and operational processes to support continuous improvement.
- Covers for other clinical leaders as needed and performs other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited NP or PA program. - Licensure:
Current, active, and unencumbered Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in good standing.
- Required:
Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as an NP or PA.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to mentor and develop team members.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Flexible mindset with a bias for action and problem solving.
- Demonstrated initiative and commitment to process improvement and team building.
