Responsibilities
  • Performs complex (journey-level) network work involving the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of LAN/WAN infrastructure and related equipment.
  • Supports TJJD information technology initiatives by coordinating with local and field IT staff, maintenance staff, and stakeholders to configure, deploy, and repair infrastructure components.
  • Installs and configures infrastructure equipment, software, and tools to ensure optimal network and security system performance, in compliance with standards.
  • Monitors sites from core data centers to service recipients to resolve LAN/WAN performance and security issues.
  • Troubleshoots network hardware and software issues to restore service promptly during outages.
  • Maintains inventory records for technology equipment and tracks locations and ownership of devices.
  • Configures and supports switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, and routing protocols (including EIGRP and BGP) and supports multicast as needed.
  • Provides guidance and cross-training to IT staff and users to ensure daily operations continuity.
  • Ensures compliance with safety policies and complete required documentation for incidents and employment records.
General Description

Performs journey-level network work involving implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of TJJD LAN/WAN and related security systems. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative. May require travel, overtime, and on-call duties. Adheres to agency standards and procedures to maintain security and integrity of TJJD networks.

Essential Functions
  • Install and configure infrastructure hardware/software to ensure network and security system operation in line with standards.
  • Monitor LAN/WAN sites and resolve performance, communications, and security issues.
  • Collaborate with Data Center Services on technical aspects of TJJD network infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot issues to restore service; maintain accurate inventory and documentation.
  • Configure switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, 802.1q tagging, and routing protocols; apply knowledge of multicast.
  • Provide technical guidance to IT staff and cross-train in area of responsibility.
  • Complete duties in compliance with safety policies and attend work as scheduled.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree. Two (2) years of full-time wage-earning experience in a core network support environment (workstation, electronic security, or communications). One year of customer service experience.
  • OR High School diploma or equivalent. Six (6) years of full-time wage-earning experience in a core network support environment (workstation, electronic security, or communications). One year of customer service experience.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in computer science, MIS, or related field
  • CCNA Routing and Switching
  • Experience supporting a LAN or WAN
  • Experience with managed network environments and cloud management

Experience and Education Substitutions

One year of appropriate experience may substitute for one year of education.
