As a Platform Engineer at Base, you will build and maintain the foundational infrastructure, internal platforms, and shared services that enable our engineering teams to deliver software and hardware integrated systems  will design reusable infrastructure components, create tooling and abstractions that simplify complex distributed systems, and support core services that power Base’s mission to modernize the grid.

This is a high leverage role. You will collaborate across backend, controls, hardware, and infrastructure teams to understand their needs, remove bottlenecks, and build the underlying systems that increase engineering velocity, reliability, and safety across the organization.

• Design, build, and maintain internal platforms and shared infrastructure services used by engineering teams

• Build scalable infrastructure components that support distributed systems, production workloads, and hardware connected services

• Develop tools, workflows, and abstractions that reduce friction in development, testing, deployment, and operations

• Improve CI and CD systems to increase reliability, speed, and developer productivity

• Use infrastructure as code to ensure infrastructure is consistent, reproducible, and auditable

• Collaborate with backend, controls, and hardware engineers to define service interfaces, deployment pipelines, and operational standards

• Create observability, logging, and monitoring tooling that enables teams to understand and operate their systems

• Support cloud infrastructure including provisioning, networking, orchestration, and resource management

• Document platform architecture, design decisions, and recommended engineering practices

• Integrate infrastructure with hardware and control plane needs when required, ensuring smooth operation across cloud and physical systems

• Strong experience with backend or infrastructure engineering in cloud based environments

• Expertise with modern cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure

• Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, Cloud Formation, or similar

• Strong programming skills in languages used for backend or tooling development such as Go or Python

• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts, service oriented architectures, container orchestration, and microservices

• Deep understanding of software delivery workflows including CI and CD

• Ability to design reusable interfaces, abstractions, and internal platforms for developers

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across backend and hardware adjacent engineering teams

• Comfortable owning broad infrastructure responsibilities in a fast moving environment where requirements evolve rapidly
